Who Can Go & Who is Needed?
Anyone who meets the age requirements and can sit through the
road trip can go. Everyone is needed whether you can build or not.
The price of the trip includes transportation, meals and lodging.
You must be at least 18 years old. 16 or 17 year olds must be accompanied
by an adult from their home church. 14 and 15 year olds can go if accompanied
by a parent or legal guardian.
The cost is $230 per person. All monies must
be received by June 7th. If you cancel after June 21
you will only receive a partial refund.
It takes about 12 hours to get to La Mision from Marysville.
To get there we take I-5 all the way to the La Mision turn off. We use
rental vans and trucks that are covered with insurance for travel in Mexico.
We'll leave Saturday morning and stop for breaks about every two hours.
On the way home we'll spend the night in a motel and gather in a room
and share what we experienced on the mission field.
Where do we stay?
The Door of Faith Orphanage has a camp ground on the 120 acre
property. This servers as our base of operations for our home building
ministry. The campground has 4 large sleeping quarters, a fully equipped
kitchen, hot and cold running water, in-door toilets and showers. The
town of La Mision is 40 miles south of the U.S. border and close to the
Pacific Ocean coast which keeps the temperatures down and provides for
a mild summer. Light jackets are recommended for the cool evenings.
Rules, Guidelines and Information
Everyone must have a picture ID.
All prescription drugs that you bring with you should be in the original
container.
No halter tops, no bikinis, no short shorts.
Do not playing with, touch, poke or capture any insects or animals.
Do not play with fire. It is very dry in Baja.
Fireworks can be purchased in Ensenada. They can be fired off under the
supervision of adults at the ocean only. Fireworks are illegal in California
and cannot be brought home.
When shopping in Ensenada remember to only buy things that would be on
God’s shopping list. He would not buy knives, drug paraphernalia,
alcohol, lighters or over-the-counter drugs that are illegal in the United
States.
Work Schedule
We will work as much as we must to get the project done. Note:
The daily schedule maybe adjusted or changed to fit our project needs.
In addition to the home building project we will have other projects that
are just as important that you can get involved in. Examples would be
laying rock, painting, electrical work, bathroom repairs, etc. Just as
important are the people who will be needed to support the people on the
projects. We need cooks, dishwashers, housekeepers, campsite monitors,
etc. The people who support the builders are equally important.
Bedding
The orphanage campground has nice American style bunkhouses with bunk
beds. The bunk beds are made of wood. If you need more cushion, there
are usually foam mattresses that were left behind you can use or bring
your own foam or air mattress. You will need bedding such as a sleeping
bag and pillow. The electrical current is the same as here. Any electrical
devices you bring will work with their electrical outlets.
Clothing
Dress comfortably, shorts are fine. Whatever you might wear to a church
picnic would be fine. For church, men should have long pants and if possible
women should have skirts. Bring a light jacket for the evening. If you
want to go into the ocean, bring a modest swim suit.
Toiletries
Bring your own soap, shampoo, toothpaste, a couple of towels,
etc. The bathrooms are connected to the bunkhouse and can be accessed
by leaving the sleeping quarters and walking around to the side of the
bunkhouse on the cement sidewalk. There are two stalls and one shower
for the women and two stalls and one shower for the men. There is a second
set of bathrooms detached from the sleeping quarters. Toilet paper cannot
be flushed in any toilet in Mexico. Put all paper in the basket beside
the toilet.
Other
There is a fully equipped kitchen. We can drink the water at the orphanage.
The water comes from a fresh spring in the mountains. We also bring bottled
water.
Do not over-pack or bring more stuff than you need. One suit case, sleeping
bag and pillow should meet all your needs. People who are bringing tools
can bring more. I will be contacting those who are going with a tool list.
I know many of you have tools but we want to try and not duplicate our
tools. We are taking pickups to haul our equipment and supplies but they
can fill up fast if we don’t watch what we bring.
Bring your Bible. Bring a flashlight. You may want to bring insect repellent.

What We Do In Mexico.
We play with the children at Door of Faith Orphanage.
We shoot off fireworks.
We go to the beach and play in the ocean.
We hike the mountain.
We shop in Ensenada, Mexico.
We may paint buildings inside and out.
We build a house.
We eat, visit with each other, sit around the campfire and experience
the blessings of the Lord. |
Is It Safe ?
The People of the Baja like Americans and are happy to see us.
They live on tourist dollars. Many Americans live and have retired
in Baja. We will be staying at the orphanage, a very respected member
of the community and a friend of the local police. The orphanage has
a natural spring water and it is safe to drink. We also take plenty
of bottled water and plenty of food with us on the trucks. |
Remember that you are a guest of the orphanage. We are not there to Americanize
them or to criticize them. We will operate under their rules and timetables.
Don’t take any preconceived ideas. Let God speak to you and he will
show you many things. If you allow it, this trip will make you a better
Christian. This should be a life changing experience. When we return to
our church, you should return as representatives of the mission field to
excite people and motivate them to support the Lord’s work in foreign
lands.
